The winds are gusting outside my window bringing with them a chill in the air, whispering reminders of the approaching winter. It seems too early for such reminders. The leaves have not yet changed color here in Tokyo and it seems like we have just been released from the paralyzing heat of the summer. Still, I couldnt be happier that this colder and cozier time of year is upon us.
In the spirit of the coming All Hallows Eve, I thought Id share this festive cocktail with you. The Poison Apple is easy to whip up for a last minute Halloween party. With only 4 ingredients that are easy to make in pitcher worthy portions, this is the perfect way to celebrate in swanky costumes. Or you can make it to order while you snuggle with your sweetheart under a blanket watching scary movies.
I love the mini bamboo fork (click on the link to order your own!) from Restaurantware.com that is stuck in the apple. The beautiful color of bamboo is gorgeous with the red apple and makes it easier to take a bite or two as you sip away!
I used the mini bamboo fork to poke holes all around the apple. This allows for the liquid to seep into the apple as you drink and makes for a slightly poisoned apple.
Do you dare take a bit of the poison apple? Happy Halloween!
The Poison Apple
Makes 1 drink
2 oz. apple cider or apple juice
1 oz. pomegranate juice
2 oz. tequila
1 tsp honey (optional)
crab apple or other very small apple for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for at least 30 seconds until freezing cold. Poke a few holes in the apple and add it, with the mini bamboo fork, in the cocktail glass. Pour the liquid over the apple and serve immediately.
